MANY PEOPLE WORK IN JOBS AND POSITIONS THAT THEY SHOULD “NOT” BE WORKING WITHIN!!!???

HAVE YOU EVER STOPPED BY A FAST FOOD RESTAURANT, AND BEEN VERY RUDELY ADDRESSED BY THE PERSON AT THE COUNTER? …. WHEN, I HAVE DONE SO, STOPPED FOR A MEAL, AND GET “NOT EVEN WELCOMED, OR THANKED” FOR SPENDING MY MONEY AND THE COUNTER PERSON, BASICALLY “GROWLED” AT ME FOR SPEAKING TO THEM!! MY 1ST THOUGHTS, UPON LEAVING IS “YOU SHOULD NOT BE IN THIS VERY PUBLIC-TYPE OF JOB”. THEN I SAY A “QUIET PRAYER”, AS I LEAVE.

SO I RECEIVED THIS STORY, INTO MY MANY RESEARCH AND INFORMATION INBOXES, AND IT REMINDS ME OF SOME PEOPLE WHO ARE “SCAMMING THE EDUCATION SYSTEMS” AND “WIOA” FUNDS, AND PUT OUT “KISS Y-KISSY-HUGS”, PUBLICLY THEN DO NASTY/DIRTY/EVIL THINGS BEHIND CLOSED OFFICE DOORS AND IN THEIR CLASS ROOMS. THEY TREAT THEIR TEACHERS AND EMPLOYEES LIKE DIRT AND THEN GO PLAY “HUGGY-POO” WITH THE EDUCATIONAL FUNDING PEOPLE AND POLITICIANS AND ADMINISTRATORS.

The Problem Isn’t the Students. It’s the Classroom.

School itself is an unnatural environment, so why treat kids who struggle there as if they are broken?

My fellow teachers and I were “professionally developed” again the other day.

Professional development (“PD” for short) is the continuing education that all teachers must undergo to stay certified (i.e., to keep our jobs). This particular PD session concerned “special needs” kids (the exceptional learners), “intervention,” and “accommodation.”

If you’re already bored, you understand how teachers can feel. There are a lot of fancy words to describe what we do every day.

In this case, we discussed how much we should change the classroom, the material, or the assigned work for kids who are struggling. Do we jump in and help them directly? Do we change the assignments a bit or a lot? Do we stop the whole class to help a struggling student or do we set aside time later? Do we allow extra time on the test or retakes? What do we do with the kid who can’t sit still, can’t seem to listen, can’t seem to shut up? How do we deal, in other words, with the outlier kids, those who don’t fit the mold for one reason or another? The square pegs in the round holes.

The classroom is a place with a lot of round holes and not many square ones. Most kids are round pegs. It’s designed that way.

The result is that school becomes an environment adapted and flattened to the majority.

Kids in a classroom clump to the middle in terms of ability and behavior. They form a solid mass of semi-predictable habits and attributes that more or less define what goes on — not only how teachers manage the group, but how they teach, assess, and plan.

Good teachers want the best for each individual student, but they are tasked with helping all of them using tools specifically maximized for the group: the classroom, shared texts, age-based groupings, content specific subjects, rubrics, and universal assessments. The similar behavior of those in the majority can define the structures and practices of a classroom—all the ways a classroom breaks social connections, directs attention, organizes information, encourages activity, frames conversations, streamlines and clarifies assessment. These are the kids you can mostly get to focus on the work by seating them at desks in various configurations. They are the ones who can absorb information from a person at the front of the room, who can take notes and sit still and resist the urge to throw things and internalize their boredom.

The result is that school becomes an environment adapted and flattened to the majority of the population’s age, content needs, abilities, and behaviors.

WHY DID I NOT KEEP TEACHING??? 1ST OF ALL, I WAS VERY, VERY GOOD, AT WHAT I DID, AND I WAS NOT EVEN THE “MAIN CERTIFIED TEACHER” WITHIN THOSE CLASSROOMS; BUT THE SCHOOL WAS CALLED “THE DALLAS COUNTY SCHOOL OF ACCELERATED LEARNING” AND IT WAS MINE AND OTHERS TEACHERS’ JOBS TO “ACCELERATE”; 10TH, 11TH, 12TH GRADERS (WHO WERE PERFORMING READING/WRITING/MATH AT 3RD/4TH/5TH GRADE LEVELS); MY JOB WAS TO “ACCELERATE” THEM TO THEIR PERSPECTIVE GRADE LEVELS, SO THEY COULD GRADUATE!!

WHAT A THRILL, OF MY HEART, WHEN THE “GRADUATED STUDENT” RETURNED TO ME, “HOLDING UP THEIR DIPLOMAS, SMILING/CRYING SOMETIMES” AND DECLARING AT ME: “MR. REECE, MR. REECE; LOOK=I GOT MY PAPERS! THANK YOU, FOR BELIEVING IN ME, MR. REECE, THANK YOU!!”

SO, THE MAIN REASON(S) THAT I DID NOT KEEP PURSUING THAT “TEACHING/EDUCATIONAL” PATH, WAS/IS NOT THE STUDENTS, IT IS THE POLITICS/GREED/SCAMMERS/CHEATERS/CLICKS/AND CRAP, WITHIN THOSE SYSTEMS AND MANY EDUCATORS/POLITICIANS AND HOW CORRUPTIONS AND MONEY AND POWERS ARE AT WORK, AND “THE ONE-SIZE-FITS-ALL”, EDUCATIONAL SYSTEMS, ARE RUINING MANY OF OUR THE CONSTRUCTIVE MINDS AND PERSONALITIES OF STUDENTS AND PEOPLE, ESPECIALLY PEOPLE OF COLORS=HISPANIC, BLACKS, NATIVE AMERICAN, ASIAN, AND OTHERS…

OH THE “FINAL STRAW” THAT I WAS “NOT SUPPOSED TO KEEP TEACHING AT THAT SCHOOL, BESIDES “REFUSING TO CHANGE STUDENTS GRADES=ILLEGALLY”, WAS THAT I FOUND OUT THE CHAIRMAN OF THE “LARGEST PRIVATE PRISON SYSTEM” IN AMERICA, ALSO OWNER THAT SCHOOL, AND YOU DO THE MATH: DO YOU THINK HE AND HIS BOARD MEMBERS/STOCK HOLDERS PREFERRED TO; “BILL THE TAX-PAYERS; U.S./UNITED STATES; THE $40K PER YEAR, PER PRISONER OR $7K FOR EACH STUDENT/PER YEAR??; AND ULTIMATE GREED IS THAT TAX-PAYERS WERE BEING BILLED OUT OF “BOTH” AND POLITICIANS AND SO-CALLED LEADERS, KEPT SUCH THINGS QUIET AND PLAYED “KISSY-POO”…WELL, I FORCED MYSELF TO GET FIRED, BECAUSE I REFUSED TO DO SOME THINGS, AND I KNEW THAT WHEN “I REFUSED” THAT I WOULD EVENTUALLY GET “RELEASED” OR “not” ASKED TO RETURN, AFTER THE SCHOOL YEAR ENDED.

I RECENTLY, DID SOMETHING SIMILAR, BY REFUSING TO DO CERTAIN THINGS, WHICH WERE ASKED OF ME, AND I KNEW, THAT BY “NOT DOING” THOSE TYPE THINGS, THAT I WAS BASICALLY “ASKING-FOR-IT” TO BE LAID OFF/LET GO/RELEASED;=FIRED!! ITS VERY TOUGH TO NOT TAKE THE “FEW PIECES OF SILVER”, AKA THE MONEY=BECAUSE WITHIN OUR WORLD, THE WORLD OF MEN/WOMEN; “MONEY” IS PRETTY MUCH THE GREATEST MOST POWERFUL SPIRIT=”GREED”….
