WHEN I RECEIVED THIS MESSAGE FROM “KIM WORTHY’S CAMPAIGN”, AT 1ST I WAS NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING; AS WE; (ME AND MY WIFE) HAVE MOVED AWAY FROM DETROIT, MICHIGAN AND WAYNE COUNTY, TO LAS VEGAS, NEVADA. BUT, WE KEEP UP WITH HAPPENINGS BACK IN DETROIT, AND MICHIGAN AREAS, BECAUSE WE HAVE COUNTLESS RELATIVES AND FRIENDS, STILL THERE. AND BESIDES, I HAVE ADMIRED “KIM’S WORK, AND LEADERSHIP FOR YEARS”. SHE AND OTHER PROSECUTORS EVEN AS WIDELY RECOGNIZED, AS FORMER PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE, Kamala Harris; WELLLLL, THEY HAVE VERY DIFFICULT AND TOUGH JOBS, AS TO “FOLLOW AND EXECUTE” THE LAWS, IRREGARDLESS OF “RACE/COLOR/NATIONALITY/NATURAL ORIGINATION/SEX/OR ANY TYPE OF DISCRIMINATION(S).
ONE OF THE BEST THINGS ABOUT OWNING OUR OWN WEB-MULTI-MEDIA AND ENTERTAINMENT GROUP OF COMPANIES, IS THAT WE CAN JUST “PUBLISH/PRINT/REPUBLISH THE EXACT WORDS, INTERVIEWS, STATEMENTS, AS PEOPLE THEMSELVES, “SAY THEM”… WE DO NOT HAVE ANY “EDITORS/BOSSES/POLITICAL AGENDAS” OTHER THAN OUR OWN, THAT WE HAVE TO ANSWER TO, EXCEPT THE “COMMUNICATIONS” AND TRUE/TRUTH FACTS AS WE KNOW THEM TO BE…. SOO, I/WE DECIDED TO “PUBLISH” THE EXACT MESSAGE INTO OUR EMAIL/INBOX, AS IT CAME FROM “KIM, WHO IS CERTAINLY “WORTHY” TO BE “THE WAYNE COUNTY PROSECUTOR”. Do you want the truth, Terry? | |
Hello, Terry. So, you may have seen some negative things about me on social media, in your mailbox, or even on TV. Maybe someone has told you about what a friend of a friend has said about me. Well, I am here to break down the false claims about me and give you the truth. After all, as your Wayne County Prosecutor, I strive for the truth and justice each and every day. Trust, Honesty, and Integrity are key traits that a prosecutor must possess. My opponent has repeatedly lied, made up statements, and is backed by outside special interest groups who know nothing about Wayne County and she has admitted would only contribute funds to the Prosecutor’s Office if she is elected. She has also stated that she would be controlled by them and their agenda. She has only been a lawyer for six years and only tried 14 felony cases. Justice should never be controlled by an agenda. You will see the truth below. Wayne County cannot have a dishonest prosecutor, Wayne County needs the bold, proven, and fearless leadership that I provide. CLAIM: Wayne County has 1,000 wrongful convictions, more than any other county in the state. ANSWER: I created the state’s first Conviction Integrity Unit in 2017 to provide justice for the wrongfully accused and that work has led to 20 exonerations. I have won praise from critics for hiring Valerie Newman, a longtime attorney who has worked on such cases, to head the unit. There is still no other county that has established such a unit, and now Attorney General Dana Nessel has created a unit at the state level based on my work. Our unit did receive approximately 1,100 requests for case reviews, which is not the same as wrongful convictions. Of those reviews, approximately half have been completed. CLAIM: Kym Worthy created/caused the rape kit crisis/backlog. ANSWER: In 2009, an assistant prosecutor in my office toured an abandoned Detroit Police warehouse and on that tour asked what was contained there; that’s when it was learned that the rape kits were just sitting there untested, some going back as far as 30 years. Thirty years! For the next several years, I worked to get public and private financial and other support to get all the kits tested. My work led to the creation of a statewide task force, new legislation to expedite testing; the processing, investigation and testing of all 11,341 kits, 215 convictions and the identification of 829 serial rapists. My work is hailed as a national model. The Detroit Free Press in its endorsement of my candidacy, actually called out my opponent for lying about this. Detroit Free Press quote: “Worthy’s work to bring justice to sexual assault survivors has been nothing short of heroic, and her challenger’s attempts to cloud that record are disingenuous, to say the least.” CLAIM: Kym Worthy likes to lock up black men. ANSWER: I support several specialty courts (for veterans, mental health and drug rehabilitation) and our office created 15 diversion programs. That has resulted in 18,000 youths and adults being diverted from confinement. During the COVID-19 crisis, I worked with judges, law enforcement and jail officials to help reduce the jail population by 40 percent. I also don’t charge on marijuana offenses. Ninety-five juvenile lifers have been resentenced, and 62 have been released. CLAIM: Prosecutor Worthy is so overzealous that she locked up a 10-year-old for assault simply because he was playing dodgeball. ANSWER: This child was never charged as an adult. In fact, he was never even arrested. He was charged as a juvenile and that never should have happened. Once I found out about it, it was dismissed within 24 hours. I have taken full responsibility by saying that he should have never been charged, and the charges were dropped the next day. So, Terry, there you have it. Over the last 16 years, I have worked to innovate by offering alternatives to confinement, to hold public officials accountable and as a fierce advocate for victims. I want to build on that innovation through support services for the newly exonerated, with the creation of a Community Court, continued calls for a state and national database of bad cops and with the creation of a prosecutorial dashboard for greater transparency. My opponent has lied about my track record repeatedly during this campaign, and I just wanted to set the record straight. I hope that with this information, I can count on your vote for my re-election as Wayne County Prosecutor on Tuesday, August 4th. Polls are open from 7am until 8pm. Thank you, Terry! Sincerely, Kym Worthy, YOUR Wayne County Prosecutor P.S. Want to help? We’d love to have you volunteer on Election Day! Go to the Volunteer page on my website to sign up. Thanks! |
Re-Elect Kym Worthy Wayne County Prosecutor
Kym L. Worthy is running for re-election as Wayne County Prosecutor. The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office needs proven, bold, and fearless leadership – and a leader who has never been afraid to collaborate and innovate. #VoteWorthyForWayne #JoinUs https://bit.ly/3cJY0VX “Smart on crime.” Not blindly, “Tough on crime.” Join the movement of progressive justice for all. Initiatives include: -PROMOTING CONVICTION INTEGRITY -LEADING THE DETROIT RAPE KIT PROJECT -PROTECTING ELDERS -ADVOCATING FOR LGBTQ JUSTICE -PREVENTING YOUTH CRIME -ENCOURAGING CRIMINAL REHABILITATION & DIVERSION -SUPPORTING MENTAL HEALTH -REDUCING GUN VIOLENCE -ADVANCING ACCESSIBILITY & TRANSPARENCY -GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY PROMOTING CONVICTION INTEGRITY Prosecutor Kym Worthy aims to better the criminal justice system by preventing and rectifying wrongful convictions. In 2018, Kym launched the first Conviction Integrity Unit in the state of Michigan. This unit investigates credible claims of innocence to determine if a defendant truly did commit the crime and takes steps to remedy wrongful convictions. LEADING THE DETROIT RAPE KIT PROJECT In 2009, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy’s office discovered 11,341 sexual assault kits in a Detroit Police Department property storage facility. The kits, which were collected between 1984 and 2009, were never submitted for DNA testing. Thanks to the diligent and dedicated work of the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, the backlog of kits has now been cleared. Kym is dedicated to ensuring that every case is investigated and that a victim-centered approach to sexual assault investigations is implemented at a state and national level. PROTECTING ELDERS More than 73,000 older adults in Michigan are victims of elder abuse. That’s why Kym created the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office Elder Abuse Unit to help protect one of our state’s most vulnerable populations. This unit prosecutes crimes targeting elderly or vulnerable persons, crimes in nursing homes, or adult foster care facilities. ADVOCATING FOR LGBTQ JUSTICE Kym helped launch the Fair Michigan Justice Project, a collaboration between Fair Michigan and the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office that advocates on behalf of the LGBTQ community and vertically prosecutes felony cases involving LGBTQ victims of crimes. This project is the first of its kind in the nation and advances LGBTQ safety and criminal justice in Metro Detroit. PREVENTING YOUTH CRIME Kym has implemented and advanced many programs aimed at preventing youth from becoming a part of the cycle of crime and violence, such as the Change the Culture initiative, Right TRAC, and the Teen Court Diversion Program. ENCOURAGING CRIMINAL REHABILITATION & DIVERSION Kym is committed to being smart on crime and not blindly, “tough on crime.” In order to help prevent the cycle of criminal activity, Kym heads multiple diversion programs and specialty courts for rehabilitation for nonviolent offenders. SUPPORTING MENTAL HEALTH Kym has been a lifelong advocate of treating individuals who suffer from mental illness rather than incarcerating them. The Prosecutor’s Office has developed mental health diversion programs and supports jail mental health treatment release initiatives for misdemeanor offenders. REDUCING GUN VIOLENCE Committed to reducing gun violence in Wayne County, Kym has been a part of multiple gun violence prevention and support programs, such as the Change the Culture initiative and the Change for Life program. ADVANCING ACCESSIBILITY & TRANSPARENCY Kym is proud to bring accessibility and transparency to her office and the justice system, and has held town halls and meetings with all forty-three of Wayne County’s communities. She also created the Citizens Academy and criminal justice tour programs to provide an inside look at her office and help demystify the criminal justice system. GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY Kym believes that “service is the rent we pay for living” and is active in the United Way, the Joyful Heart Foundation, the Sickle Cell Disease Association of America, the Lead Poisoning Task Force of Michigan, the Optimist Club, and the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She also created the Alexandra Simone Fund for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Henry Ford Hospital in memory of her deceased daughter.
REALLY, “KIM” IS VERY, VERY “WORTHY” OF BEING “THE WAYNE COUNTY, MICHIGAN PROSECUTOR”; FOR AS LONG AS SHE CONTINUES THE FANTASTIC JOB WHICH SHE HAS DONE, FOR QUITE A WHILE. SHE HAD GOTTEN BETTER AND BETTER, AND THAT IS WHAT “WE-THE-PEOPLE” WANT AND NEED!!…
“THE WORTHY TREE IS KNOWN BY HER/ITS FRUIT” AND THE FRUIT OF HER WORKS, SPEAKS FOR HOW HER “TREE IS KNOWN”…
Luke 6:43-45
New King James Version
A Tree Is Known by Its Fruit
43 “For a good tree does not bear bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. 44 For every tree is known by its own fruit. For men do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they gather grapes from a bramble bush. 45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil [a]treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
